Basic Accounting Tips
Income vs. Expenses
Track both money coming in (income) and money going out (expenses). The difference between these gives you your cash flow status.
Important: Correctly selecting "Income" vs "Expense" is critical! Income adds money to your account, while expenses subtract from it. Miscategorizing these will result in incorrect balances.
Categorization
Organize transactions into categories like "Housing," "Food," "Transportation," etc. This helps identify areas where you can reduce spending.
Regular Reviews
Check your finances weekly to catch errors and maintain awareness of your financial situation.
Budget Allocation
Use the 50/30/20 rule as a starting point: 50% for needs, 30% for wants, and 20% for savings and debt repayment.
